Ah the rumour mill during the summer transfer window, you’ve got to love it haven’t you. With Aston Villa being reasonably regularly linked with Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton the last few weeks, the story took a different turn on Friday afternoon.

“There’s Nothing In It” – Manager Dismisses Villa Interest In Reported Target

With the Daily Mail earlier in the week claiming that we had submitted a ‘firm offer’ for the England stopper who was believed to be available for around the £7million mark given he only has 12 months left on his contract at Turf Moor, Sean Dyche’s rebuttal of that (as linked above) was pretty strong when it came to whether or not there had been contact.

However, that didn’t stop Sky Sports on Friday from pulling the ‘understands’ trick when it came to making unsubstantiated claims and their take on things was that we had made an opening move to judge Burnley’s reaction, but our offer was ‘derisory’.

We will undoubtedly soon know the truth, but Dyche has always struck me as the kind of character to admit a bid and state it was too low – maybe it’s me?
